If a player is ill, injured, or otherwise unable to attend evaluations, contact the Zone Commissioner or Coordinator immediately.

Players who selected “Not trying out for A” may still attend evaluations to assist with balanced B Team formation. Contact the Zone Coordinator if you wish to attend.

Evaluators for 2026 include the 222’s: Keith Mackintosh, Dean Holoien, and their team of instructors.

Evaluations Format

Evaluations will follow a 4-station rotating circuit. Each age group will be divided into four groups and rotate through:

  • Hitting
  • Infield
  • Outfield
  • Key Indicators (velocity metrics)

Sign-In Required

Players must sign in upon arrival and will be assigned a Group Leader who will guide them through the entire evaluation process.

Hitting

  • 10 live pitches + 10 soft-toss pitches
  • Scored on contact, swing mechanics, and power

Infield

Athletes complete timing and skill evaluations from the shortstop position:

  • 4 rolled ground-ball attempts (timed glove-to-glove)
  • 5 hit ground balls scored on mechanics and proficiency

Outfield

  • 4 rolled ground-ball attempts (timed glove-to-glove)
  • 5 fly balls scored on tracking, catching, and throwing mechanics

Key Indicators

  • Arm Strength Velocity: 5 attempts throwing into a net
  • Bat Exit Speed: 5 attempts hitting into a net

Pitching & Catching Evaluations

Pitching

Pitchers will throw a set number of pitches measuring speed, location, spin, and mechanics:

  • U11 – 3 attempts per pitch (or 9 total pitches)
  • U13 – 3 attempts per pitch (or 9 total pitches)
  • U15 – 3 attempts per pitch (or 12 total pitches)

Catching

  • Test 1 – Bunt Throws:
3 timed attempts fielding bunts and throwing to 1st base.
  • Test 2 – Pop Time:
3 glove-to-glove timed throws from home to 2nd base.
  • Test 3 – Receiving Skills:
5 coach-thrown pitches scored on stance, receiving, and framing.

'A' Team Formation Methodology

Based on evaluation scores, the top 15 ranked players are eligible for A Team selection.

  • The top 8 ranked players automatically earn roster spots (unless they opted for B).
  • Additional spots are filled through a combination of evaluation scores and coach selections.
  • Final roster size varies by team.

Pitchers and catchers are evaluated on: general fielding, hitting skills, and their pitching/catching abilities.

'B' Team Formation Methodology

All remaining players not selected for an A Team will be placed on B Team rosters. If numbers allow for two B Teams, players will be divided appropriately.
